Course Overview

DMV-approved course for all permit holders aged 16 and older.

The 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Course takes place online through a live Zoom class. You don't need to come to a classroom. A certified instructor leads the entire session, explains everything step by step, and answers your questions in real time.

This is not one of those boring click-through programs where you sit and stare at your screen for 5 hours. The class is interactive. You watch short videos, join discussions, and can ask anything during the lesson.

There are no tests, no quizzes, and no final exam. Just attend the full class and you will receive your MV-278 completion certificate.

We work with permit holders across New York State and ship certificates to any address. You also get a digital confirmation the same day. If you need faster delivery, expedited USPS shipping is available.

Who Needs This Course

All first-time drivers in New York State must complete this course before they can schedule a road test. It doesn't matter how old you are.
If your license has been expired for over a year or was revoked, you need to take the course again.
If you have a driver's license from another country and want to get a New York license, this course is required too.
Keep in mind that this is not the same as Driver Education (MV-285). They are two different things.

What the Course Covers

New York traffic laws, defensive driving, right-of-way rules, and practical tips that will actually help you on the road.
After you finish the course, you get your MV-278 certificate. This is the document that lets you book your road test in NY.
The class also covers alcohol and drug awareness, how to do basic vehicle safety checks, and how to share the road with pedestrians and cyclists.

How to Register

Registration is required in advance

You can sign up right here on our website, call us at (914) 825-6274, or visit one of our Brooklyn offices in person.
After you register, we will send you an email with the Zoom link and everything you need to join the class.

Receiving Your Certificate

Once you complete the course, you can get your MV-278 certificate in two ways:

By mail: We can send your certificate to any address in the US. Standard delivery takes about 1 to 2 weeks.
In person: You can also pick it up at our office at 590B New York Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11203 during business hours. We will email you when the certificate is ready so you can choose a time to come in.

The fee includes the full 5-hour class with a live instructor and your MV-278 completion certificate. We accept all major credit and debit cards.

Lost Your Certificate?

If you took the course with us and lost your original certificate, we can issue a duplicate. Just contact us and we will mail a new copy to you for a $25 fee. Please note that the original certificate must still be valid (not expired).

What Documents Do You Need?

Plastic Photo Learner's Permit

If you already have your plastic photo NY learner's permit card, that is all you need to take the course. Have it with you during the Zoom class so the instructor can verify your identity.

Paper Permit + NY State ID

If your plastic card hasn't arrived yet (it usually takes about 2 weeks), you can use your paper learner's permit together with a New York State photo ID issued by the DMV.

Accepted forms of state ID include: a NY State ID card, an expired driver's license, or an expired learner's permit.

Please note: You cannot take the course with only an Interim Permit (the paper receipt you get at the DMV counter). US Passports and Green Cards are not accepted by the NYS DMV as valid identification for this course.

You will receive the Zoom link and login information to our learning portal via email within an hour of registering for the course.
What documents do I need on hand to take the course?

Please have your valid NY learner's permit (plastic or paper) and NY state ID if you only have the paper permit. These are needed to verify your identity.
Can I take this course using a mobile device?

Yes, our online course can be accessed on any modern smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer. As long as you have internet access, you can take the course from anywhere.
How long is my completion certificate valid for?

The MV-278 completion certificate is valid for 1 year from the issued date. You must schedule a road test before it expires.
I lost my certificate - can I get another copy?

Yes! If you contact us within a year of taking the course, we can issue a replacement completion certificate for a $35 fee.
Do I have to complete the whole 5 hours at once?

No, our online course allows you to learn at your own pace. The live Zoom session with the instructor is 2 hours and required to be taken in one sitting.

This driving school really helped me with a car for my road test the same week I had to take my test I’m so thankful I found them because my license is what I needed by a certain deadline the car did come a few mins late but this was due to weather & traffic issues.
